Time to Party!
March 9, 2006 - 7:50pmEveryone at work is counting down the days until the New York screening (and afterparty) for Ice Age: The Meltdown. It looks like there won't be a party after the official Los Angeles premiere, so the events in New York City will be even more significant. Of course, some crew members are still planning to make their way out to Grauman's Chinese Theater for a chance to join the "Celebrity Air Collection Squad." (Kidding!) For those of us who can't be there in person, though, there's always stargazing via the internet.
With the New York event in mind, I've been doing a little extra shopping lately. I ordered a mandarin-collared, long skirt set (mostly black with pink and green accents), and of course I own nothing pink, so I "had" to get a new handbag to go with it. Incidentally, while I was nosing around for fresh gear, I also found the flowery purse that I received last summer. If the party wasn't in the city, I might be tempted to pair that with my alternate outfit - a flutter-sleeved, black dress. Here's hoping at least one of these outfits work!
Update: Well, the black dress didn't work out (too big), but I did manage to get the same model a size smaller in mint green. It was on sale for less than the price for a pair of blue jeans at the Gap, so I couldn't resist (even though I went with the skirt set afterall). Before the festivities, I went to the Elizabeth Arden Red Door spa for a manicure, pedicure, and a new 'do that sent about seven inches to the floor. That evening, I was armed with a new 4G memory stick in my cybershot, but wound up mostly using the camcorder because night mode just catches all kinds of hilarity. ;)
Back again!
October 6, 2003 - 10:09amI just returned from a very good friend's Wedding Weekend (where I was playing the part of "Maid of Honor"). Quite the learning extravaganza on all things matrimonial. After a few weeks of Slim-Fast, I could breathe in my dress (yay!), but it was floor length even with heels involved...and after a night of toddling around, the hem needs to be resewn. Not to worry, I'm sure I can get the lady of Sylvia's Alterations to fix it. She has very reasonable prices and hours.
The rehearsal went well, and fast, but I guess without the officiant to play with us, we only had marching choreography to memorize. The "ribbon project" I mentioned in a previous entry survived the trip to Virginia - it was a bouquet made of a one candle and ribbon from every present she received at the Bridal Shower. I grabbed a tall, tapered candle that had been wrapped completely in green linen ribbon to simulate a flower stem bundle (the ribbon was on a gift she received at the shower) and inserted that into a plastic bouquet collar. Once that was tacked into place, I built around it with layers of looped, straight ribbon, curly ribbons, bows, and a lot of hot glue. It had kind of a cascading look to it...different than her actual bouquet, but still useful I think.
After the rehearsal, we went to a restaurant in the same plaza where they had a Gucci and Tiffany's - the dining area was a few flights downstairs, and they had a private room waiting for us. A few of the bridesmaids weren't up for the premium beef and seafood menu prepared for us, so together we opted for a vegetarian platter. It was like they had planted a garden straight in Miracle-Gro and bypassed soil altogether - the veggies were that huge.
The food at the actual wedding was excellently proportioned, though, as well as very good. By that point, however, I had been stuffed well beyond what my Slim-Fast shrunk stomach could endure. If only doggie-bags were posh at weddings!! :) Anyway, everywhere we went there was either a tab waiting or pre-arranged, free-pour "beverages", so I felt no pain. ;) Yeah, until today...my legs are in much pain today...like I ran around everywhere with heels or something this past weekend. LOL Whoever made high-heels a positive cultural aesthetic should be flogged. In any event, I'm going to try to get wedding photos up for those who had been invited to other pre-wedding events - they'll notice a new photo download area. The rest of you will just have to imagine what it was like in your head. Think navy blue, sunset, and a glass atrium and you'll get the idea.
